Illinois House Republican Leader Jim Durkin says the legislative map for the next decade isn’t necessarily a done deal just because Gov. Pritzker signed it. Durkin says the map may end up in court.
It was drawn using information from the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, which doesn’t aim to count everyone where they live in a short period. Republican critics of the map say it’s based on estimates of how many people live everywhere.
If Pennsylvania is comparable to Illinois, a court case over the map could take a long time to hash out. A map drawn by the Republican-controlled Pennsylvania legislature in 2011 got tossed in 2018.
