Jackson Browne has apparently re-recorded one of his classic songs for an upcoming charity project — with all the original musicians.
On Facebook, famed session drummer Russ Kunkel reposted a message from famed bass guitarist Leland Sklar. Both Kunkel and Sklar were part of The Section, a legendary crew of session musicians who played on most of the big California singer/songwriter releases of the ’70s, including records by James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon and Browne.
Kunkel and Sklar currently play together in the group The Immediate Family. Sklar’s post included a shot of Sklar and Kunkel together with Jackson Browne, along with the caption, “Had a great day with the Immediate Family in Jackson Browne’s studio. Afterwards, he [asked] us to record ‘Doctor My Eyes’ for a wonderful charity project.”
Sklar added, “We used the instruments we recorded the original track with; what a trip down memory lane. Love playing with Jackson.”
ABC Audio’s request to Browne’s camp for information about the charity project was unanswered at press time.
The original version of “Doctor My Eyes” was a top 10 hit for Browne in 1972. It’s also been recorded by The Jackson 5, Wilson Phillips, Garth Brooks, Ben Folds and others.
