Improving air quality to Jefferson Elementary School would be the first school the Ottawa Elementary School Board would want to use the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund toward.

At a special meeting Wednesday the board approved a motion to start the process of looking into the cost and how it would be paid for by the ESSER funds.

If officially approved Ottawa Elementary School Superintendent Cleve Threadgill said some two million dollars would be put toward improving the school through ESSER II which has to be turned in by June 30th.

But there would be some money used with an ESSER III fund.

Threadgill said that ESSER III funds can be used for air quality but 20% of it has to go toward funding for the school itself.

Two men Bill Taylor and Jeff Chamberlin discussed with the school board about what systems the schools already have and several ways to heat and cool the schools.

The board approved a motion to see how geothermal energy would benefit Jefferson Elementary.
