In the future if you want to fly around the US or enter a certain secure federal buildings you’ll need a Real ID.
The federal government just extended the deadline for being able to get one to May of 2023.
Beth Kaufman, a spokesperson for the program says it’s not going to be required for everyone to get one.
Kaufman says if you’re not flying around the US then a Real ID isn’t necessary and you can just drive with your regular drivers license.
www.realid.ilsos.gov is where you can go to find out more information about the program and what documents you’ll need to bring with you to get the Real ID.
Another place you’ll need a Real ID would be visiting a military base.
