Yesterday on 1430 WCMY the Marquette Crusaders hosted Henry at Masinelli Field and defeated the Mallards 4-0 in game one  due to the power outage. We were unable to broadcast game two when the Cru dominated 13-0 in five innings.

For the Cru, Shane Reynolds pitched a no-hitter with nine strikeouts through the first two outs in the seventh inning. In game two, Logan Nelson  gave up  three hits while striking out six. Brady Ewers finished the game throwing a scoreless fifth. 

 

Seneca also competed in a double-header at Putnam County. 

Unfortunately the Irish lost 5-3 in game one and were defeated 1-0 in game two.

 

Also in baseball, the Serena Huskers won big on the road at Leland 11-1

 

The Ottawa Varsity tennis team defeated Morris 4-1

For the Pirates Adam Gross won In singles.

Sam Walker / Regan Linde, Will Goetz / Tanner Ditchfield and the team of Daniel Reinhardt / Logan Goetsch won in doubles

 

The Ottawa JV team defeated Morris 5-0.

For the Pirates: Sebastian Cabrera and Karcin Hagi were winners in singles.

The teams of Ethan Hancock/Zander Houk, Taegeon Eom/Ethan Cela and Landen Thorsen/Rylan Salas all were winners in doubles.

 

Over in track and field

The Streator Bulldogs hosted Coal City in a dual contest.

The boys team lost 66-62. The girls team won 93-28.

 

Ottawa celebrated senior night and hosted the Rock Falls track team at King Field.

Results from the contest have yet been posted.

 

The Seneca wrestling team defeated Deer Creek and their host Prairie Central in a triangular contest

Ian Happ belted a pair of home runs and drove in three to seal the Cubs 5-2 win over the Nationals at Wrigley Field.  Justin Steele got the win and Craig Kimbrel posted his ninth save for the North-Siders which took three of four in the series.  The Cubs visit the Cardinals tonight.

The Cubs placed veteran right fielder Jason Heyward on the injured list yesterday with a left hamstring strain and recalled outfielder Nick Martini from Triple-A Iowa.  Currently, the Cubs have eight players on the IL

The Chicago Fire  hosts  Miami  tomorrow night in the MLS.  The Fire has dropped four straight matches. 

Northwestern football will open the 2022 season overseas.  The Wildcats will meet the Nebraska Cornhuskers at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland on August 27th. The Wildcats won the Big Ten West division in 2020 after posting a 6-1 record.
