Ottawa traveled to LP to compete in a special outdoor wrestling matchup at Howard Fellows Stadium. The Pirates defeated the Cavaliers 51-29. 

Winners for Ottawa were: Alberto Villareal, Tristan Simmons, Grason Johnson, Hunter Wilson, Tate Spicer and Hunter Duffy.  

Winners for the Cavaliers: Connor Lorden, Rylan Poole and Greg Williams

 

Also in wrestling, Seneca defeated Sherrard and their host Putnam County in a triangular meet.

Winners who competed for the Fighting Irish: Luke Sangston, Jaden Casey, Owen Feiner, Wilson Widman, Chris Peura, Gavin Robertson and Nathan Elliott

 

In Baseball

 

The Ottawa Pirates fell to the LP Cavaliers 6-5 at Veterans Memorial Park.

 

The Marquette Crusaders dominated Roanoke-Benson  14-2 in five innings.

 

Seneca earned a road win at  Henry 11-2.

 

For Softball

The Marquette Lady Crusaders defeated Lowpoint-Washburn 14-2.

 

The Seneca  Lady Irish got a road win over Henry 8-4.

 

The Lady Cavaliers of LP won at home over Serena 10-1.

 

The Lady Pirates defeated Rochelle 5-0 at King Field in girls soccer.

Gabi Krueger and Nastya Sheptenko each scored a pair of goals.

 

 

Over in track and Field

 

Putnam County hosted Seneca and Marquette in a triangular contest in Granville.

Overall results had The Irish taking 1st place, the Crusaders finishing 2nd and The Panthers placing 3rd.

 

Streator won their dual event on the road at Manteno.

The Bulldogs won 97-30 and The Lady Bulldogs won 55.32 – 49.6

 

 Ottawa lost in both boys and girls to their host Princeton in a non-conference matchup.

 

Elsewhere in sports

Be sure to catch White Sox baseball all afternoon today when the South-Siders host a split double header with the Kansas City Royals. Each game will be seven innings Game one is a makeup game from April 10th. Pre-game begins at 1:30 with the first pitch at 2:10pm. Game two’s broadcast will start at 6:45pm on the radio at 1430AM WCMY.

 

Tim Anderson and Jake Lamb each homered as the White Sox completed a three-game sweep of the Twins with a 4-2 win at Guaranteed Rate Field. 

 

The Cubs visit the Tigers tonight.  Jake Arrieta takes the mound for the North-Siders against Detroit’s Tarik Skubal.  The Cubs have lost three straight.

 

The Cubs and White Sox are set to increase fan capacity to 60-percent for home games.  Wrigley Field’s capacity will jump when the Cubs begin their three-game series against the Reds on May 28th.  The Sox will boost capacity at Guaranteed Rate Field beginning May 24th versus the Cardinals.  

 

The Cardinals won against the Brewers 2-0 in Milwaukee.  Nolan Arenado’s first-inning RBI single is all St. Louis needed to take two of three in the series.  The Cards visit the Padres tonight.

 

Zach LaVine led the Bulls with 24 points in a 114-102 win over the Raptors at the United Center. The Bulls must beat the Nets and Bucks over the weekend and the Wizards must lose their final two games.to secure the final spot in the Eastern Conference play-in tournament

 

The Chicago Fire fell 1-0 at D.C. United last night in the MLS.
