St. Sen. Sue Rezin says nothing like the coronavirus outbreak that killed 36 veterans at the LaSalle veterans home should happen again. The Morris Republican says legislation she’s sponsoring would set a two-case trigger for the Illinois Department of Public Health to investigate disease outbreaks within three days.
Rezin and St. Rep. David Welter want the Illinois Auditor General to look into what’s wrong and make sure Gov. Pritzker is held accountable if anything he did is wrong. They say they don’t want it to be political.
But LaSalle County Board member Mike Kasap, a Democrat, recalls a time when Republicans didn’t think so much of Auditor General Frank Mautino. Mautino has been accused of misusing campaign funds. The court case is to go before the Illinois Supreme Court this year.
Kasap is on the LaSalle County Veterans Assistance Commission and says it’s wrong for Republicans to try to pin blame Gov. Pritzker for the coronavirus outbreak.
Kasap says it was also wrong for Democrats to blame Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner for a Legionnaire’s disease outbreak at the Quincy veterans home.
