Yesterday in Varsity Baseball

Ottawa won on the road over Kaneland 5-4,

The Pirates Jace Addis pitched seven innings with seven strikeouts and four earned runs.

 

LP celebrated senior night with a victory over Morris 10-9.

 

Over in softball

The Ottawa Lady were winners at Kaneland 3-0.

Abby Bukantis went seven innings with nine strikeouts and allowed just two hits in the shutout for Ottawa.

 

The Marquette Lady Crusaders lost on the road at St Bede 7-1

Payge  Pyszka gave up just three hits, walked one and struck out 10 in the Lady Bruins victory.

For the Lady Cru, Kaylee Killelea  went 4 ⅔  giving up three runs, five walks and 11 strikeouts.

 

The LP Lady Cavaliers lost at home to Morris 13-9.

 

The Ottawa JV tennis team defeated Streator and Mendota.

For the Pirates: Sebastian Cabrera and Karcin Hagi won in singles.

The teams of Ethan Hancock & Zander Houk, Taegeon Eom & Ethan Cela, Rylan Salas & Landen Thorsen and Owen Phillips & Alan Sifuentes were all winners in their doubles matches.

 

The Ottawa girls soccer team lost at Mendota 3-0.

 

St Bede lost to Yorkville Christian, and the LP Cavaliers in Wrestling 

The Bruins wrestlers who competed and won their matches:  Ethan Fleming  Noah Setser, Kole Piano,  James Sanchez and  Ryan Migliorini  

 

 

Elsewhere in sports

Jesse Winker’s walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth gave the Reds a 1-0 win over the White Sox in Cincinnati.  The loss spoiled Dallas Keuchel’s seven-inning, two-hit shutout for the South-Siders who will visit the Royals tomorrow night.

 

The Cubs were winners over the Dodgers at Wrigley Fielding in eleven innings.  Jake Marisnick hit a two-run homer for the North-Siders which completed a three-game sweep.  Alec Mills got the victory in relief.  The Cubs will host the Pirates tomorrow.

 

The Cardinals split a doubleheader with the Mets at Busch Stadium.  Paul Goldschmidt and Paul DeJong each homered as St. Louis took game one 4-1, extending the Cards winning streak to six games.  New York went on to win game two, 7-2.  The four-game set wraps up today.

 

The Bulls visit the Hornets tonight.  All-Star guard Zach LaVine is expected back in the Bulls lineup tonight.  LaVine missed the last 11 games after entering the NBA’s health and safety protocols.

 

The Blackhawks wrap up a three-game road set with the Hurricanes tonight.The Hawks fell 6-3 to the Caines on Tuesday and have lost six straight. 

 

The PGA Tour is in Charlotte North Carolina this week for the Wells Fargo Championship at the Quail Hollow Club.
