For the last eight years, a local chapter of a group called Ambucs has provided 121 bicycles specially adapted for children and adults with disabilities. I-80 Ambucs chapter president Kris Applebee says that’s more than $100,000 worth of bicycles and tricycles. Some of the bikes and trikes let the riders sit in positions that most riders wouldn’t need to, or they can be pedaled by hand.
The group got a $1,000 donation most recently from the five-car Jeffy Rocket Racecars team, which races at Grundy County Speedway. Racing team owner Jeff Olson says a friend of his came up with the idea of raising the money and he was excited to help someone in need.
