The LaSalle County Republican Party’s court case over state’s attorney’s race results stayed alive Friday. But it might not have long. Party Chairman Larry Smith is allowed to prepare a fifth version of his complaint that votes were miscounted.

While that’s happening, the attorney for County Clerk Lori Bongartz is asking for the case to be finally and fully dismissed. Matt Krueger says a false allegation that Bongartz filled in ovals on ballots in violation of the law should never have been filed.

Democrat Todd Martin took office as the LaSalle County State’s Attorney, but the court case’s plaintiffs believe Republican Karen Donnelly should have won reelection. She now works for the Grundy County State’s Attorney’s Office.
