In High School baseball

Wednesday’s game between Marquette and Kirkland Hiawatha at Masinelli Field was halted due to the rain with one out in the bottom of the second inning and the Crusaders up, 2-0.

 

Ottawa won on the road at Rochelle 10-1

For the Pirates, Jack Olson pitched a complete game giving up just two hits, one walk, and striking out seven. Luke Cushing hit a home run and two RBIs and Evan Evola finished with a triple and a RBI.

 

Newark won in five innings over  Earlville 14-2, Morris also won in five innings 12-0 over Sandwich and Newark defeated Earlville 7-0.

 

The Ottawa girls softball team won at Sycamore 14-6.

Abbey Bukantis pitched five innings with twelve strikeouts for the Lady Pirates

 

Serena lost on the road to Wheaton-St Francis 6-5 in softball.

The Lady Huskers Katie Baker had a home run and a single.

 

The Ottawa girls soccer team defeated Plano 5-1

Leading the way for The Lady Pirates were Morgan Stone with 3 goals and 1 assist. Gabby Krueger had 1 goal and 2 assists and Rylee Duncan added a goal. 

 

LP defeated Rockridge but lost to All-eman in Wrestling.

In Junior High girls basketball.

Shepherd 7th grade lost 28-27 to Wallace in overtime.

Aubrey Sullivan led the Lady Rams with 8 points

 

Shepherd 8th Grade girls defeated Wallace 47-17.

For the Lady Rams Marlie Orlandi had 15 points.

 

Elsewhere in Sports

Keep the radio on this afternoon for White Sox Baseball. Last night’s game was postponed due to rain and now  the Sox will host the Tigers in a double header at Guaranteed Rate Field. Pregame starts at 3:30 with the first pitch at 4:10pm. Game two will begin no earlier than 7:10pm. Be sure to catch all the baseball action starting this afternoon on 1430AM WCMY.

 

The Chicago Cubs were shutout for the second straight game with a 10-0 blowout loss to the Braves in Atlanta.  The North-siders haven’t scored in 20 straight innings going back to Wilson Contreras’ two-run homer in the seventh inning last Monday.   The Cubs will look to end both streaks tonight when they wrap up their series with the Braves.  

 

The Cardinals gave up four unanswered runs in a 5-3 loss to the Phillies in St. Louis.  The Cards built a 3-1 lead going into the fifth, but starter Johan Oviedo lost the lead, and the bullpen then allowed two more runs as the Phillies rallied through the seventh. The Cards and Phillies will wrap up their four-game series this afternoon.  

 

The Blackhawks continue their homestand tonight with the first of two matches against the Florida Panthers.  The Hawks are 22-22-and-5 this season and are coming off a loss to Tampa Bay on Tuesday. 

 

The 2021 NFL Draft kicks off tonight in Cleveland.  The Jacksonville Jaguars hold the top pick and are expected to take Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. The Chicago Bears have one pick in the first round at number 20.
