There’s been one mental health exam for 35-year old Peter Bergsma. The Michigan man will soon get another. His lawyer plans to argue that Bergsma wasn’t sane when he allegedly shot at two Oglesby police officers at the Illinois Valley Community College campus and then ran away in late December. Judge H. Chris Ryan told Bergsma Thursday, he must cooperate with the second psychiatrist who will produce a report for the prosecution.
The case will be in court again on June 17. That’s when prosecutors will present their psychiatrists’ findings and the judge will determine how to settle a disagreement, if there is one.
