The Morton Arboretum’s Chicago Region Trees Initiative is getting a $10,000 grant from Nicor Gas. The utility says the project wants to increase the tree canopy in the Chicago region by planting more trees, reducing threats to trees, and enhancing oak ecosystems. Some of the arboretum’s work is done in LaSalle County. The other project supports the Get Growing Foundation. It’s working in the Joliet area to give 500 native plants to gardeners to make butterfly gardens.
