About 10,000 LaSalle County property owners have been sent applications for the Senior Assessment Freeze. Abbie Krafft with the LaSalle County Assessor’s Office says that’s one of the property tax breaks some older people may qualify for. You have to apply for it every year in case your circumstances have changed, affecting your eligibility.
The assessment freeze keeps your future property taxes based on the tax value of your home when you first applied for it. It’s one of a few property tax breaks some people qualify for based on their income and age. To get it, you must be at least 65 years old, your household income can’t be more than $65,000, and you must live in the home all year.
