Yesterday’s White Sox game at Cleveland was postponed due to field conditions and weather. The contest has been rescheduled as a traditional doubleheader on Monday, May 31st. The South-Siders return to action on Friday at 7:10 p.m. when they host the Texas Rangers for the first of a three-game weekend series.
The Chicago Cubs pounded out 13 hits on the way to a 16-4 blowout win over the New York Mets. Shortstop Javier Baez hit a grand slam for the Cubbies while David Bote drove in four runs on two hits. Alec Mills pitched three innings in relief to get his first win of the year. The Cubs will now go for a sweep of the Mets when the teams meet up again tonight.
The St. Louis Cardinals were unable to find the plate in a 1-0 shutout loss to the Nationals. The Cardinals Carlos Martinez gave up one run over six-innings but couldn’t get any run support as he took his fourth loss of the season. The Cards will return home to Busch Stadium to host the Reds on Friday.
The Chicago Blackhawks scored four unanswered goals on the way to a 5-4 overtime victory over the Nashville Predators. The Hawk will rest tonight before playing the Predators again on Friday night.
The Chicago Bulls fell on the road to the Cleveland Cavaliers 121-105 to end their two-game winning streak. The Bulls Lauri Markkanen came off the bench to lead the team in scoring with 16 points. The Bulls host the Charlotte Hornets at the United Center tonight.
NFL owners are approving several rule changes for 2021. Among them are expanded oversight from replay officials, an experiment to make onside kick recovery easier and the elimination of preseason overtime. More players will also be allowed to wear single-digit numbers.
