Monday Local Sports Update

This past weekend in high school football

Marquette won a wild one at Gould Stadium against Ridgewood 30-14.

Senior Crusader Jake Thomas  had three interceptions in the victory.

 

Ottawa was dominated by LP at Howard Fellows Stadium 34-6.

The Cavaliers defense scored two touchdowns and blocked a punt to set up an offensive score.

The Pirates lone score was a 56 yard touchdown pass from Braiden Miller to Briar Naggs in the final seconds of the game.

 

Seneca lost at home in double overtime to Momence 32-26.

Ryan McCauley rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns for the The Irish.

 

The Streator Bulldogs were  hammered by Manteno 54-0

 

Morris was outscored by Sycamore 21-14.

 

St Bede was dominated at Sterling-Newman 35-6.

 

Shepherd 8th grade girls defeated Wallace 48-10 in basketball.

The Lady Rams were led by  Hailey Larsen with 16 points and Marlie Orlandi finishing with 10 points.  Shepherd is currently 3-0.

The Sox took the lead in the 8th with an Adam Eaton pinch hit for a two-run homer but couldn’t hold on in a 4-3 loss to the Royals in ten innings at Guaranteed Rate Field. Liam Hendriks suffered the blown save and Garrett Crochet was tagged with the loss.  

 

The Cubs offense sputtered again in a 7-1 loss to the Pirates in Pittsburgh.  The North-Siders lone run came in the second on a Javier Baez home run.  Trevor Williams took the loss against his former team, giving up five runs on 10 hits over three-and-a-third.  The Cubs visit the Brewers tonight.

 

The Cardinals fell behind early and couldn’t recover in a 9-3 loss to the Brewers at Busch Stadium.  Daniel Ponce de Leon fell to 1-and-1 after giving up seven runs on six hits in one and a third. The Cards host the Nationals tonight.

 

The Chicago Bulls made a late rally but still fell 121-117 to the Timberwolves at the Target Center.  Zach LaVine had 30 points for the Bulls who will visit the Grizzlies tonight. 

 

The Blackhawks face the Blue Jackets on the road tonight for the second time in three days.  The Hawks defeated Columbus 4-3 on Saturday.  Today is the NHL trade deadline at 2pm. 

 

Over in the PGA, Hideki Matsuyama is the winner of the 2021 Masters Tournament at Augusta National.  Matsuyama finished at 10-under par, becoming the first male Japanese player to win a major.
