The crash happened when a semi-truck driver ran into the back of a van and then the back of a car that were stopped approaching a construction zone. Vehicles were pushed into other vehicles until five people altogether were hurt badly enough to be sent to area hospitals.

Those hurt are 49-year old Mark Mautino of Spring Valley, 51-year old Karen Kloepping of Princeton, 37-year old Kimberly Foster of Dalzell, 56-year old Steven C. Mautino of Bettendorf, Iowa, and 76-year old Patricia James of Princeton. It took about three hours to reopen the highway.
