Some of the cracks in the walls in the women’s pod at the LaSalle County jail are the kind that happen when the ground settles under a building. Jack Cusack with IMEG Engineering recommends to the County Board Property Committee using radar to look into the ground.

Once the engineers know what’s going on under the jail floor, they can figure out what to do about it. Soil borings were already done there, but Cusack says if the engineer doesn’t happen to take a sample where there’s a void, the engineer doesn’t detect a void. The $18,500 radar imaging proposal would show gaps bigger than a softball without requiring any more drilling through the floor.
