There have been several tries to eliminate a two-year waiting period for people with Huntington’s Disease to get Medicare coverage and the five-month wait for them to get Social Security disability payments. But they’ve never passed Congress. Cong. Adam Kinzinger is trying to get support again for the Huntington’s Disease Parity Act.
The inherited disease causes mental and physical deterioration, usually beginning in middle age, but sometimes it affects young adults. Kinzinger says the bill would provide a targeted solution to fix an outdated system and help tens of thousands of people with the disease. Another House member and two Senators are sponsoring the bill.
