The canal boat next to the toll house on the Illinois and Michigan Canal in Ottawa has its cabin back. Ottawa Canal Association President Arnie Bandstra says seven months after a tornado and derecho ripped it off, a new one is in place.

The flagpole at the toll house was damaged in the wind storm too. It’s been replaced. And the project to fill about a half mile of the canal with three feet of water for recreational use is nearly done. Some water is already in the canal. Bandstra expects the rest to go in within two weeks.

Bandstra talked about the work on WCMY’s Morning Mix program this week.
