The Tri-County High School Basketball Conference awarded their All-Conference Players yesterday.
Marquette Crusaders senior Lucas Hoffman was named first team all conference,
Marquette senior Nick Melvin and Seneca senior Zach Pfiefer were selected to the All- Conference second team.
Honorable Mentions were awarded to Marquette senior Luke Couch and Seneca senior Chase Hauch.
In the girls conference
Seneca senior Brooklyn Giertz was unanimously chosen as the Tri-County Conference Girls Basketball Player of the Year
Brooklyn and Senior teammate Madison Bromberek were named to the All-Conference team.
Maquette Junior Josie Eager was also selected to the All-Conference team and Sophomore Lady Crusader Eva McCallum was awarded Honorable Mention.
Congratulations to the athletic directors of Marquette and Seneca high school and their basketball programs.
In Girls Volleyball
The Ottawa girls Volleyball team defeated Streator 25-23 and 25-16.
Leading the Lady Pirates were Lily Miller with 17 assists and 5 digs and Piper Nanouski adding 10 kills with 10 digs.
For the Lady Bulldogs Devin Elias had 4 kills, 2 digs, 1 block, and 1 ace in the loss.
Ottawa JV were also winner over Streator
Illinois’ Ayo Dosunmu is the USA Today National Player of the Year. The junior guard received the award after leading the Fighting Illini to a number-one NCAA Tournament seed and a Big Ten Tournament title. The Illini opens the NCAA Tournament tomorrow against sixteenth-seeded Drexel in Indianapolis.
The NCAA Tournament begins tonight with the First Four in West Lafayette and Bloomington Indiana.
The White Sox fell 4-3 to the Dodgers at Camelback Ranch. Matt Reynolds homered for the Southsiders, while Lucas Giolito was tagged with a loss after giving up two runs in three and two thirds. The Sox host the Royals today. Listen to all the White Sox games this season on 1430AM WCMY.
Willson Contreras smacked a three-run homer and a two-run triple in the Cubs 8-2 win over the Padres at Sloan Park. Kyle Hendricks allowed two-runs over three-and-a-third for the win. The Northsiders visit Cleveland today.
The Cardinals and Astros tied 4-4 in West Palm Beach. Paul Goldschmidt drilled a two-run homer for St. Louis. Adam Wainwright allowed two-runs in four and two thirds for the Cards, who host the Marlins today.
The Bulls led by as many as 23 points but collapsed in the fourth quarter in a 106-99 loss to the Spurs at the United Center. Zach LaVine scored 29 points, while Thaddeus Young added 16 for The Bulls who will face the Nuggets tomorrow night.
The Blackhawks begin a two-game road set tonight against the Lightning. The Hawks are coming off two-straight losses to the Panthers in Florida and are fourth in the Central Division with 33 points.
Over in the PGA, the Honda Classic tees off today at Palm Beach Gardens in Florida.
