The charges filed this morning against 37-year old Donald A. Fredres are murder, attempted murder, and aggravated discharge of a firearm. He’s accused of killing 62-year olds Brenda and Gregory Barnes, Sr. by shooting them inside their home northeast of Sheridan Tuesday night. They used to be his mother- and father-in-law. On the same night, the windows were shot out at his ex-wife’s home. She suffered wounds from the flying glass.

As of Thursday morning, Fredres was in the LaSalle County jail being kept there without a bond amount set. For a two-and-a-half year period that ended in September, Fredres had not been allowed to have contact with his ex-wife. She had accused him of harassing her when she sought an order of protection in April 2018. That led to a two-year court-approved ban on him even being in the village of Sheridan while she lived there.

Fredres agreed to the order. There’s no indication in court records that he violated it.

UPDATE: Bond has been set at $5 million.
