Wednesday Local Sports Update

The Associated Press announced yesterday the Ottawa Pirates are ranked 11th among class 3A in the final AP high school basketball poll. Dekalb is ranked 11th in 4A, Fieldcrest is ranked 10th in 2A, Yorkville-Christian tops the 1A poll, Kewanee is 4th and Roanoke- Benson is 10th.

 

Ottawa senior Anthony Cooper was voted the Interstate Eight Conference Player of the Year after leading the Pirates to a 14-1 overall record and the conference championship.

Cooper and junior Luke Cushing were unanimously voted to the 2021 All Conference Team.

Seniors Levi Shoulders and Zach Vogel were chosen All Conference Honorable Mentions.

 

For the girls division, The Lady Pirates junior Brooke Waddell was voted unanimously to the All Conference team. Junior Ella Marvel made the All Conference Honorable Mention. 

Congratulations to Athletic Director Mike Cooper and the OHS basketball program.

 

The Ottawa girls bowling team finished 2nd overall In the interstate eight conference tournament

Michaela Boaz finished 5th overall with a high score 215.  Michaela finished the year 2nd  in all conference standings

McKenzie Lewis finished 8thh with a high score of  203.  McKenzie finished the year 7th in all conference standings.

 

The Marquette Academy 8th grade girls volleyball team defeated Trinity Catholic in the regional championship.. 

Leading the Lady Knights was Maura Condon with 8 aces and 3 kills. Avery Durdan added 4 aces and 6 assists. 

 

MLB

Luis Gonzalez drove in the go-ahead run in the ninth for the White Sox in a 4-3 win over the Padres at Peoria Stadium.  Adam Eaton recorded an RBI for the Southsiders and Tayron Guerrero earned the win.  The Sox host the Dodgers today. Listen to the White Sox this season on 1430AM WCMY.

 

The Cubs welcome the Padres tonight to Sloan Park.  Kyle Hendricks is starting for the Northsiders.  Chris Paddack takes the mound for San Diego. 

 

The Cardinals visit the Astros this evening.  Adam Wainwright takes the mound for The Cards.  Bryan Abreu gets the start for Houston

 

NBA

Zach LaVine poured in a game-high 40 points in the Chicago Bulls 123-102 victory against the Oklahoma Thunder at the United Center.  Lauri Markkanen added 22 for the Bulls who will host the Spurs tonight.

 

NFL

The dream of the Chicago Bears landing a top tier quarterback like Russell Wilson or Deshaun Watson this offseason appears to be over. The Bears are reportedly signing veteran QB Andy Dalton to a one-year, ten-million-dollar deal.  The 33 year old quarterback played nine seasons for the Cincinnati Bengals and played for the Cowboys last season. The deal includes another three-million in incentives which puts Dalton in the lead to be the Bears starting quarterback for 2021 ahead of Nick Foles.
