Nothing’s certain yet, but Supt. Mike Cushing says Ottawa High School could soon let in-person students attend for more than two days a week. As more teachers get the second doses of the COVID-19 vaccines, fewer of them have to quarantine for two weeks after they’re exposed to anyone who has the virus. And social distancing guidelines are being eased.
So by April 6th, vaccinated staff who come into contact with someone who has COVID-19 won’t have to quarantine for two weeks. But OHS will still be on half-days. Cushing says there’s no feasible way to serve lunch and keep students as far apart as required.
If there’s anything like a prom this year, it will almost certainly be different. And it’s possible that this year’s graduation ceremony will be outside. Cushing asks parents to return a survey sent out to parents recently, so the administration can try to make the best decisions.
