LaSalle County Sheriff Tom Templeton says he has a hard time keeping dispatchers. He thinks raising their pay $2.50 per hour across the board will help. They currently make around $35,000 to $44,000 per year, somewhat less than they can earn at other police departments and dispatching centers.

Templeton says the other places are happy to hire the dispatchers who are already trained. He spoke about the problem to the LaSalle County Board Public Safety Committee last week. His proposal needs to work its way through committees and the full board before it can be approved.
