The archery method for hunting deer is growing in popularity across Illinois. Illinois Department of Natural Resources spokeswoman Rachel Torbert says a record 67,543 deer were hunted that way statewide last season.

This year’s archery total statewide is 75,544. That’s a little less than half the deer taken statewide with firearms accounting for most of the rest. In LaSalle and Grundy counties, more than half the deer were taken with arrows.
