There won’t be a LaSalle, Putnam, and Marshall counties regional spelling bee this year. The event has been cancelled because of the coronavirus.

Each school with sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students has its own spelling bee and determines which students to send to the spelling bee in Ottawa. The winner there gets to compete in Peoria. And the winners there go to the Scripps National Spelling Bee. But many of the area schools haven’t been holding classes fully in-person because of the pandemic.

Last year’s Scripps National Spelling Bee was cancelled after the pandemic started. So far, the Scripps National Spelling Bee is scheduled for June 1-3.
