Yesterday the L-P boys co-op swim team defeated Pontiac 102-56 in their season opener at the Illinois Valley YMCA in Peru.
- Luke Mertes won the 100 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke
- Dillon Malerk won the 200 individual medley
- Joe Ovanic tied for first in the 100 butterfly
- Ryan Nelson won the 200 and the 500 freestyle
- Mertes, Malerk, Ovanic and Owen Phillips won the 200 medley relay
- And Phillips, Ovanic, Mertes and Jon Szewczuk won the 400 freestyle relay.
We have a girls varsity basketball game tonight. The Lady Irish will host the Serena Lady Huskers at Seneca HIgh School.

Trent Frazier scored 19 points on the road as Illinois outlasted Indiana 75-71 in overtime. Kofi Cockburn posted a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds for the 13th-ranked Illini, who improved to 12-and-5 and 8-and-3 in the Big Ten. Illinois returns home to take on 20th-ranked Wisconsin on Saturday.
Notre Dame defeated Wake Forest 79-58 to improve to 7-9. The Fighting Irish will travel to face Georgia Tech on Saturday.
The Blackhawks battled back from a two goal deficit, but fell to the Carolina Hurricanes in a shootout 4-3 at the United Center. Kevin Lankinen made a season-high 38 saves in the defeat. The Hawks slipped to 3-4-and-4. The same two teams face off again tomorrow night in Chicago.
The Bulls host the Knicks tonight for the second time in three nights. Chicago defeated New York 110-102 on Monday.
The NBA is tightening its mask policies once again in an effort to combat the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The league will require players to wear KN95 or KF94 masks in all instances where they are required. The league will also strictly enforce its current rules on the use of facemasks in games beginning on Friday.

The Cubs reached an agreement on a one-year, two-point-seven-five-million-dollar contract with pitcher Andrew Chafin. Chafin logged three innings across four appearances for the Cubs, striking out three and allowing one run.
The Super Bowl will be played this weekend, but the broadcast will likely have a different feel to it thanks to the coronavirus. Companies who normally spend millions of dollars on advertising are backing out. Advertising during the big game is more expensive than ever, with 30-second spots costing nearly 5.6-million dollars.
Speaking of the Super Bowl, did you know, former Dallas Cowboys linebacker Chuck Howley made history twice in one day with his performance at Super Bowl V in 1971. Not only did this linebacker become the first defensive MVP in Super Bowl history, Howley is still the only player in NFL history to win the award for a losing team. Howley intercepted two passes and recovered a fumble in the loss to the Baltimore Colts 16-13.
