A 27-year old Marseilles man is charged in federal court in Washington, DC with taking part in the riot on January 6. The FBI says two people who are connected to Mathew Capsel via social media tipped agents to videos of Capsel near the Capitol building and pushing into National Guard members’ shields until he’s pepper sprayed. One of the tipsters claimed to be a former neighbor of Capsel’s. Another person who talked to the FBI about the case shot the video.
Capsel is charged with knowingly entering a restricted area without authority, forcibly assaulting government officers, and interfering with officers protecting a government function. FBI agents are using Capsel’s drivers license picture and other pictures of Capsel to argue that he’s the man in the video. The complaint against Capsel was filed Tuesday and he was arrested in southern Illinois. No court appearances have been scheduled yet.
