Ball State dominated Northern Illinois 78-58.  The Huskies are 2-10 on the season and 1-6 in the Mid-American Conference when they face the Ohio Bobcats on Tuesday in Dekalb.                            

Illinois State was swept at home over the weekend in a two game series with the Indiana State  Sycamores losing Saturday 73-65 and again yesterday 74-68. The Redbirds are 4-8 and will host Bradley on Wednesday.

 

 Northwestern’s losing streak has been extended to five games following a 96-73 defeat to number-9 Iowa at Welsh-Ryan Arena.  Pete Nance led the Wildcats with 16 points.  NU hits the road to face Wisconsin Wednesday night  

 

14th ranked Illinois lost to Number 21 Ohio State 87-81 in a Big Ten matchup. Ayo Dosunmu led the Illini with 22 points in the defeat who sit at  9-5 and will look to bounce back at home against Penn State at The State Farm Arena.

 

The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame got its first ACC victory with an 80-70 win over Boston College in South Bend.  The Notre Dame and Howard game scheduled for today has been canceled because of COVID-19 concerns in the Bison program. Next up for the Irish,  they will travel to Miami to face the Hurricanes on January 24th.

 

The Bulls Lauri Markkanen had 29 points and 10 rebounds and Garrett Temple scored 15 of his season-high 21 points in the second quarter as the Chicago Bulls ended a four-game losing streak with a 117-101 victory over the Mavericks in Dallas. The Bulls host the Houston Rockets tonight at The United Center.

The Blackhawks fell 5-2 to the Panthers in Florida.  Alex DeBrincat and Connor Murphy scored for Chicago and Collin Delia made 24 saves in his second straight start in the loss.  The Hawks dropped to 0-3- and will wrap up their four-game road trip to open the season with a rematch against the Panthers tomorrow night. 

The Divisional Round of the NFL  playoffs was this past weekend.  On Saturday, The Green Bay Packers were able to pull out the win over the Rams 32-18 at Lambeau Field thanks to 296 passing yards and three total touchdowns from Aaron Rodgers. and the Bills beat the Ravens 17-3 in Buffalo.  The win sends Buffalo back to the AFC Championship Game for the first time since they went to four-straight in the mid-1990s.  

 

On Sunday,The Chiefs lost quarterback Patrick Mahomes to a concussion in the third quarter, but held on to beat the Browns 22-17 at Arrowhead Stadium.  and Tom Brady threw two touchdown passes and also ran for a score as the Buccaneers beat the Saints 30-20 in New Orleans.

 

The NFL’s conference championship matchups are now set.  The Chiefs will host the Bills in the AFC Championship Game Sunday in Kansas City and the Packers will host the Buccaneers in the NFC Championship at Lambeau Field.  

 

Over in the PGA, Kevin Na had to rally to win the Sony Open in Honolulu. The win was Na’s fifth victory in his PGA Tour career.
