The police reform bill that came out of the Illinois House this past week won’t get St. Sen. Brian Stewart’s support. The Freeport Republican says it would lead to fewer crimes being solved by limiting what police can do during investigations. He says it would limit accountability for accomplices to murder. He says it would deny police officers due process. And he says it would make it harder to keep violent offenders behind bars while they’re facing charges. Stewart says there are bad police officers, but the system needs to deal with them and not be drastically changed.
