The Livingston County Sheriff’s Department says it is investigating a shooting death in South Streator. Sheriff’s Department and Illinois State Police vehicles were in the 1400 block of S. Park St. this afternoon and evening in an area marked with police tape. The investigation seemed to focus on a car with a Domino’s Pizza sign on top. That vehicle was left running while investigators occasionally looked into it through the windows and photographed it from various positions.
Neighbors said they noticed police cars between 2:00pm and 2:30pm. A man said an ambulance was on the street in the block for a long time with its back door open and left without its emergency lights on. He said he never saw anyone loaded into it. An OSF Life Flight helicopter left the Streator emergency room and medical center around 5:00pm and headed toward Peoria.
Northbound Illinois 23 traffic was rerouted for the investigation. Only police vehicles and people who live just north of 14th and Park streets were allowed past the police tape. The sheriff’s department issued a statement around 6pm saying the public is not in danger.
