The Oglesby City Council this week approved a $975,000 property tax levy request. That’ll be for amounts collected next year.

Commissioner Jason Curran didn’t persuade other commissioners to go along with him when he tried to keep the city from raising the taxes this year. But in case he does next time, he’d like the council to take up the tax levy sooner than it normally does.

The city’s tax levy request is up from the $929,000 it received this year. Curran says he doesn’t have a problem with raising taxes when it’s necessary. He doesn’t feel it’s necessary this year.
