Ameren Illinois says a rate cut coming in the new year will save the typical residential customer around $12 per year. Spokeswoman Marcelyn Love says smart grid technology is part of the reason the company doesn’t need to charge so much anymore for delivery rates.
The Illinois Commerce Commission recently approved the rate reduction. It will reduce Ameren’s overall revenue by nearly $49 million.
