Gov. Pritzker proposes cutting $711 million in state expenses. He says that’s to partially bridge a nearly $4 billion gap between revenue and expenses.
He’ll need to negotiate with the state employee labor unions on $75 million in personnel cost adjustments which would include a hiring freeze and could include furlough days. Grants would also be cut. Pritzker says those are his ideas and now it’s time to hear from Republicans, who opposed the graduated income tax.
Pritzker says he’s still hopeful some help will come from the federal government, but it’s not looking likely.
