The Big Ten Conference is changing its six-game minimum rule in football.

The news comes after the Buckeyes’ regular-season finale against Michigan on Saturday was canceled due to COVID-19 issues within the Wolverines’ program.  Under previous rules, Ohio would not have been eligible to compete in the Big Ten title game after playing just five regular-season games. The Buckeyes will clash with the Northwestern Wildcats in the title game one week from Saturday.

LSU won’t be participating in bowl season this year as part of a self-imposed one-year bowl ban.  The school announced the ban stemming from an investigation from improper booster payments to players.  The Tigers are 3-and-5 but still had bowl eligibility before the decision.

Indiana and Purdue are cancelling Saturday’s scheduled football game in Bloomington due to increased COVID-19 cases at both schools.  The 12th-ranked Hoosiers are 6-and-1 and the Boilermakers 2-and-4.

In College Basketball last night,  Northwestern lost when the Pitt  Panthers rallied to defeat the Wildcats  71-70 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Northwestern is now 2-1.

Cubs ace Yu Darvish is a member of the 2020 All-MLB First Team.  The right-hander was named to the first team rotation, alongside 2020 Cy Young Award winners Shane Bieber, Trevor Bauer, Jacob deGrom and Max Freed.  White Sox slugger José Abreu was selected as the Second Team representative at first base, despite winning the 2020 AL MVP award.  Abreu was runner-up to Atlanta’s Freddie Freeman, who was the NL MVP.

The Patriots and Rams will meet for the first time since Super Bowl 53 tonight on Thursday Night Football in Inglewood.  New England enters at 6-and-6 after a 45-0 beatdown of the Chargers this past Sunday.  The Rams are 8-and-4 and tied for the NFC West lead.

The NFL is making a change for Sunday Night Football in Week 15.  The league has moved the Browns-Giants game into the national spotlight, while the 49ers-Cowboys matchup will now be an afternoon affair.  The move is part of the NFL’s flex scheduling.  Cleveland is in the thick of the AFC playoff race at 9-and-3.  New York and Washington are currently tied for the NFC East lead at 5-and-7, but the G-Men hold the tiebreaker.

The 75th U.S. Women’s Open tees off today after a six-month delay.  The Open was originally scheduled for June 4th through the 7th but the coronavirus pandemic forced the postponement.  The tournament begins this morning at Champions Golf Club in Houston with a field of 156 golfers.

Tim Sinclair is the new public address announcer for the Bulls.  Sinclair is a familiar voice to many in Illinois. He is the PA announcer for the Bears, Chicago Fire soccer, and the Illinois men’s and women’s basketball teams.  Sinclair spent the last two seasons with the Indiana Pacers, took the mic in both the NBA and WNBA “bubbles” this past summer and was selected to be the PA announcer for the 2020 NBA All-Star Game in Chicago.  He succeeds Tommy Edwards, who retired last year after serving as the Bulls’ PA announcer for 25 seasons.
