Grundy County Judge Lance Peterson now has the job of deciding whether to dismiss the LaSalle County Republican Party’s court case over election night results. If he doesn’t dismiss it, the case will go to someone else.
The party claims more than 5,700 mail-in votes weren’t counted and that’s why State’s Attorney Karen Donnelly and Illinois House candidate Travis Breeden lost. In a virtual hearing today, Peterson said he would hear the request for County Clerk Lori Bongartz’ lawyer to dismiss the case on the 23rd. If he doesn’t, it’ll be assigned to a new judge who isn’t on the job yet.
Peterson said judges are voting to fill a vacancy in the local circuit and the new judge will take office next month. Grundy County Judge Robert Marsaglia had been handling the case. He has retired. Last Friday was his last day at work.
