One person is out and another is on administrative leave at the LaSalle veterans home. The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs announced today that administrator Angela Mehlbrech has been terminated. The department’s Acting Assistant Director Anthony Vaughn will be the interim administrator. And the home’s director of nursing, not named in the announcement, is on leave.
The state says these changes follow the announcement of an independent investigation of the coronavirus outbreak that has claimed 32 of the residents’ lives. This afternoon’s announcement doesn’t give specific reasons for firing Mehlbrech or for putting the nursing director on leave.
