In the new fiscal year that starts today for LaSalle County government, the county will try to pay an extra $1.5 million into retirement funds. And it will put $300,000 more into the insurance trust fund. The plan is to catch up on the state’s requirement that pensions be funded better and to get away from borrowing money to cover the county’s self-insurance.

The overall budget looks ahead to $103 million in revenue and $100 million in spending, most of it in restricted funds such as for rural highways. The general fund, which gets the county through most day-to-day operations, is balanced with about $30.5 million in revenue and spending. County Board members approved the budget yesterday.
