Infant co-sleeping deaths have been a bigger threat than usual in Peoria County this year. The coroner’s office there reports 18 deaths so far in 2020. It’s more than in 2018 and 2019 combined.
LaSalle County Coroner Rich Ploch says the cases have remained at just one or two a year here. He says people shouldn’t go to sleep right next to babies.
In some cases, parents have said they couldn’t afford a crib. Ploch says there are charities that can help with that. And just because your family hasn’t had a problem with co-sleeping before, doesn’t mean it can’t happen.
