St. Sen. Sue Rezin wants state officials to get to the bottom of the coronavirus case explosion at the veterans home in LaSalle. The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs says 81 residents and 88 employees have tested positive for it. Seven residents have died.
The latest outbreak began less than two weeks ago. As of November 2, the home had just two residents and two staff members with the virus.
For the most part, residents with the virus are isolated from everyone else and virtual visits are recommended. The Department of Veterans Affairs says it does allow in person visits for people whose loved ones are affected by the virus. But even though it’s providing the personal protection equipment, it can’t guarantee that visitors won’t get the virus.
