The zoning change request for 1915 Champlain St. has opened up a bigger zoning question at Ottawa City Hall. The City Council last night rejected the C3 zoning that James and Katie Troccoli asked for to run a gaming parlor and bar.

Commissioner Wayne Eichelkraut says it’s not that business he has a problem with in the mostly residential neighborhood. He says the other businesses allowed in C3 maybe don’t belong next to each other, even if they’re all in C3.

Commissioner Tom Ganiere expressed similar feelings. He says he’s not against the idea of such a business being there. But he feels the C3 zoning needed for a tavern is the wrong zoning there because of what else could locate there sometime in the future.

James Less was the only City Council member voting for the zoning change at 1915 Champlain.
