Beware of a scammer who might claim that you’re wanted but can avoid arrest by paying bail over the telephone. LaSalle County Sheriff Tom Templeton says the scammer is claiming to be from the sheriff’s department. If the scammer calls you, he’ll claim there’s a warrant to arrest you, but you can pay bail by giving a credit card number or gift card number over the telephone. Templeton says don’t provide any information. Just hang up.
