Plea negotiations continue in a murder case against a 24-year old LaSalle man accused of smothering his eight-week old son to death last year. Kenneth Herbst was in court this morning and will be in court again in two weeks. Public Defender Tim Cappellini asked Judge H. Chris Ryan to take the case off the trial calendar the week of October 19th. Similar to something Herbst’s defense told the judge a year ago, Cappellini says if there is a trial, it still must be scheduled such that an expert witness for the defense will be available.
