Things got busy for LaSalle County Clerk Lori Bongartz today as early voting began. She has to sort through the ballot requests while accommodating voters showing up in person.

Bongartz says some requests came in weeks ago, but the law didn’t allow her to send ballots until today. That compounded the confusion the Secretary of State’s Office caused with a letter last week. The letter says your local election authority hasn’t received a request for a ballot. Bongartz says people who did request mail-in ballots got those letters too. And she got a lot of telephone calls from voters who wanted to make sure they’re getting ballots.

The first mail-in ballots were sent today. Also, people lined up at times at the courthouse on Etna Rd. to vote in person.

For those who don’t want to mail a ballot, there’s a drop box at the courthouse.
