Big demand for LIHEAP help this year

By WCMY News Sep 16, 2020 | 3:00 PM

The pandemic has changed things in the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. Tri-County Opportunities Council LIHEAP Director Tammy Saenz says applications for help paying utility bills are being done by appointment.

The program ran longer than usual before it ended in the spring, and the fall application period started already back on July 27th. Saenz says it’s been open to everyone, but LIHEAP is still setting priorities.

Eligibility has been expanded this year to those with 200% of the federal poverty level, so a lot more people are applying.
