NuCor Tubular of Marseilles could get the old Broadway Street and drivers would get a brand new US 6. Mayor Jim Hollenbeck announced Wednesday night that NuCor is offering the City a new road to replace a quarter mile of east Broadway from Main Street to Independence south of the I & M canal. NuCor would then have the old road East of Main for its exclusive use for trucks docking at its facility.
NuCor is a 700,000 square foot facility, shipping 24 hours a day, seven days a week East of Marseilles.
Also, it could get easier to enter downtown Marseilles on the south end. The intersection of Commercial and Main may be realigned.
The City cannot proceed on its plans to improve the intersection on its own financially. Federal funds will be necessary.
There’s a plan to realign this intersection at Main and Commercial streets in Marseilles for easier traffic flow.
