The redevelopment of the Peru Mall to “The Crossroads at Peru” is not a done deal yet. A redevelopment agreement between the city and mall owner GK Real Estate is expected to be negotiated and approved by the full city council. Architect Andy Pappas says the construction will take some time to be complete.

Over half of the mall due to be demolished to make way for one to two bedroom apartments and free standing retail buildings. Some areas of the mall that is slated to stay is the former JC Penney’s site and the current movie theater. The company is also looking to purchase the old Sears location and could use eminent domain to do so, but as a last resort.

The City Council approved assorted variances and petitions needed for the project to advance at last Monday’s meeting.
