Tonight the White Sox are on the road to begin a three game series with the Detroit Tigers. Pre-game begins at 5:35 with the first pitch at 6:10pm.
Yesterday, Jimmy Cordero gave up two 10th inning runs and the Sox lost 5-4 to the Indians at Guaranteed Rate Field. James McCann homered and drove in a run in extras for Chicago, who are now 8-and-8. Jose Abreu also homered in the setback.
The Cubs did not travel to St. Louis to play the Cardinals over the weekend as the series was postponed due to the growing outbreak of COVID-19. The Cardinals haven’t played since July 29th and announced Friday that they had three additional positive tests. The Cubs will travel to Cleveland for two games starting tomorrow. The Cards’ series against the Pirates, scheduled for tonight through Wednesday, has also been postponed.
The Blackhawks will begin their first-round best-of-seven series against the Golden Knights tomorrow night in Edmonton. Chicago is the eighth seed, while Vegas is the Western Conference number-one seed.
The Sky will face the Seattle Storm tonight at the WNBA bubble in Florida. Chicago is 5-and-2, which is good for first in the East.
Collin Morikawa is bringing home the Wanamaker Trophy after winning the final round of the PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco. The 23-year-old, in just his second major, won by two strokes at 13 under. Morikawa is also taking home 1.98-million-dollars.
Danielle Kang pulled off a stunning comeback in winning the LPGA’s Marathon Classic in Ohio. Kang finished at 15-under in winning for the fifth time in her LPGA Tour career.
Six months have passed since Serena Williams’ last tennis tournament. The 23-time Grand Slam event champion is prepared for the inaugural Top Seed Open that begins today near Lexington, Kentucky. It’s a recently added hard court tournament that serves as a tuneup for the U.S. Open. The event features sister Venus Williams and rising star Coco Gauff.
Kevin Harvick is taking home his third straight win at Michigan. Harvick finished off the weekend doubleheader sweep with a win at the Consumers Energy 400. It’s the sixth win of the season for Harvick.
In college sports..The Power 5 conference commissioners met yesterday to discuss the upcoming football season and according to reports, are considering canceling it altogether amid growing concerns over the pandemic. The Big Ten is reportedly ready to pull the plug on fall sports and wanted to gauge where the other conferences were at. Fall sports would then get pushed to the spring but no official vote has been made by any Power 5 conference.
