COVID-19 is continuing to skyrocket across LaSalle County. The health department announced 52 new COVID-19 cases Thursday for a total of 621. It is the single-highest daily increase in cases so far. The record has been set three times in the past week.
Two new deaths were also announced for a total of 24. At least one death has been reported every day since Monday. The recovery rate has also plummeted to 41.1 percent, a 30 point decrease over the last month. The recovery rate decrease is due to the rise in cases over the last month.
Illinois also reported the single-highest increase in cases in months, adding 1,953. Twenty-one additional deaths were also announced. State totals are at 188,424 cases and 7,594 deaths. The state reported more than 41,000 tests in a single day. The test positivity rate is at four percent.
Correction: an earlier version of this story incorrectly stated there had been 41,000 deaths instead of tests in a single day.
